We are a small shop on Merrills Mills Road in Dover-Foxcroft, roughly in the middle of the state. Boats come to us from Moosehead Lake, the Penobscot River, and everything in between, and we drive out to the ones that cannot make the trip.
Four Things, Done in One Shop
Most shops pick one. We do canvas, upholstery, repair, and powersport seats under the same roof, which is why a boat can leave here with a new enclosure and new seats on the same trip.

The canvas trade in Maine is stacked on the midcoast. Rockland and Camden have several lofts inside a few miles of each other, and one of them says publicly that it does not travel more than fifty miles. North and west of Belfast, the map thins out fast.
That is the ground we work. Dover-Foxcroft is about fifty minutes from Bangor, about fifty from Greenville, and about forty from Newport, which puts three separate boating regions inside an easy morning.
- Sebec Lake is our home water. Greeley's Landing is ten minutes from the shop and Bear Point Marina is on the far shore in Bowerbank.
- Schoodic Lake in Brownville runs over thirty miles of shoreline and holds real trolling traffic.
- Moosehead is the largest lake in one state east of the Mississippi, and about fifty minutes up Route 6 and 15.
- The Penobscot River is navigable twenty-five miles up to Bangor, with public ramps from Winterport to Old Town.
- Pushaw Lake sits six miles north of Bangor. Gould's Landing in Orono is the busiest ramp on it.
- Sebasticook Lake in Newport got a new marina in 2024, and Hamlin's is on High Street.

Questions About Working With a Maine Shop
The things people ask before they load a boat on a trailer.
How far will you travel to measure a boat?
Roughly a hundred miles from Dover-Foxcroft, which covers Bangor, Moosehead Lake, Newport, Millinocket, Lincoln, Skowhegan, and out to Belfast, Bucksport, and Ellsworth. Past that, call and ask. Big jobs justify a longer drive.
Do I have to bring the whole boat?
For a new enclosure or a full cover, yes, at least once. Canvas gets patterned on the boat itself, not off a measurement sheet, and that fitting is the difference between a cover that lasts and one that flogs itself apart. Seats, cushions, and repairs can travel on their own.
When should I book for spring?
Ice-out on most inland lakes now runs the last week of April, and the shop fills up in March. If you want new canvas in the water on day one, talk to us over the winter. Upholstery booked in October usually comes back before the ice goes out.
Is a custom cover actually worth it over shrink wrap?
It depends how long you keep the boat. Shrink wrap is cheaper once and gets thrown away every spring. A fitted winter cover costs more up front and then costs nothing for years. If you plan on keeping the boat five seasons, the math usually favors the cover.
Do you work on anything besides boats?
Yes. Furniture, restaurant booths, medical and chiropractic tables, snowmobile and ATV seats, motorcycle saddles, camper and RV interiors, and porch enclosures. Marine canvas is the busiest line, not the only one.
