The Penobscot is navigable twenty-five miles up to Bangor, and the ramps run the whole way: Winterport, Hampden's Turtle Head, Bangor Landing at the waterfront, then Veazie, Orono, Old Town, Costigan, and Greenbush. Boats on the river take a beating from wind and wake, and enclosure windows go cloudy fast.
Six and a half miles north of the city, Pushaw Lake is about five thousand acres of shallow, busy water. Gould's Landing in Orono is the ramp everybody uses. Lakeside Landing in Glenburn is the other one.
Hamlin's Marine in Hampden sells and services more boats than anyone in Maine, and canvas, covers, and upholstery are not on their list. That work has to go somewhere.

What people from the Penobscot valley ask first.
Do I have to trailer the boat to Dover-Foxcroft?
For new canvas, we need the boat once so the pattern comes off the actual frame. Most Bangor customers make that one trip, about fifty minutes up Route 15. If the boat cannot travel, we will come to it and pattern it where it sits.
How much is a new bimini top?
It depends on the frame, the width, and the fabric, so we will not pretend there is a sticker price. Send photos and the make and model and we will give you a real number before you commit to anything.
Can you replace just the clear vinyl in my enclosure?
Usually yes, and it is the job we do most for boats off the Penobscot. If the canvas itself is still sound, new windows zipped into the existing panels cost a fraction of a full enclosure.
Do you do pontoon furniture?
Yes. Pontoon benches, loungers, and helm chairs get stripped to the frame, new plywood and foam where it is rotted, then re-covered in marine vinyl. Pushaw boats come in with soft seat bases every summer.
When is the best time to book?
For spring water, over the winter. For a winter cover, September. Once haul-out starts in October the schedule tightens quickly, and everybody wants the same two weeks.
